OpenGL

I've recently been trying to enable special effects in KDE, on my
dapper install via this
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=75527
I'm using a nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2) card.
So, I've been through all of the guide and I ended up installing the
proprietary nvidia drivers (which i wasn't overly keen about!).
Unfortunately for me, I still could not use the composite effects as
my (P2GHz 512RAM) PC was painfully slow, so I figured my graphics card
was just not up to the job. But just now I was looking in the
KInfoCenter and I clicked on the "OpenGL" section and an error pops up
saying "could not initialise OpenGL".
I'm fairly sure that my card does support OpenGL so perhaps things are
not setup correctly. Has anyone got any tests I could do to further
investigate this?
Cheers guys!
