Kubuntu Dapper + K3b - destroying my dvd's

Well, well, well.
The plot thickens...

I brought in another burner, and guess what - same problem!!!
I even installed Fedora Core 5 with Gnome - yes, same problem.

So this is a kernel problem, I guess, just as I was beginning to
suspect.

I have a Asus A8N Sli Deluxe motherboard.

Anyone having the same setup?

I am going totally out of my mind - do I really have to buy another
motherboard to solve this problem...or worse...go back to windows??????

HELP!!!!!!!!!
