It does, but you need a different version.  I run the AMD64, and 
automatix works fine.  I did however grab it directly from 
http://getautomatix.com  The sticky on the http://ubunutuforums.org is 
also kept up to date so it really doesn't matter where you go to get it 
but do keep in mind that you need the AMD64 version because some of the 
things that it tries to download won't work properly on AMD64 (unless 
you manually intervene) such as Wine.  The latest version of it will 
tell you which software is 64-bit and which is 32-bit, so you can see 
quickly if it will be installing the i386 or the AMD64 versions.
