More information:
Dell OptiPlex GX110, Pentium III, ATI Radeon 7500, Serial mouse, 256K

Symptoms: the live CD won't boot all the way, but will go through
apparently all the reports. The alt install CD in text mode WILL
install. I go all the way through and get a screen that says the
install is successful, now reboot. When I do, the same march of text
is followed by the frozen cursor in the upper left.

I have tried the live CD with many options, different resolutions. F6
stuff, though I may be doing that wrong. There doesn't seem to be a
6.06 install forum at ubuntu, nor can I find an install manual or faq.

I am sure someone knows that this machine has a disk controller or
video peculiarity one can work around with an instruction. I lack the
knowledge of that secret handshake and the way to get a prompt to
shake it. Can someone advise me on the place to discover this, or
someone to ask? Thanks.

Best, Ted
