I'll keep that in mind for the nc6120 I will be upgrading soon.  Didn't 
work for the dv5178 though - had to wait until it came back today to 
test it.  What /did/ work was a BIOS update from HP - from F.09 to 
F.13A (released on May25th).  I can now boot it with the thermal module 
enabled.

The BIOS update fixed that too :).  I now it is rocking with kpowersave.
