I use partimage from a live CD, usually Knoppix.
Ironically I had trouble restoring Linux, but it worked fine to restore Windows 2000. I don't know why that was, but the OS was back within 15 mins.
I had the impression that Ghost 4 Linux only does backups over a network and not locally. Is that so?
I do not have a home network, and my upstream bandwidth is only 196kbps, so I would need 24+ hours to backup my OS. I prefer a DVD (off-site DVD backup means mailing an encrypted copy to a friend), although FTP backup would be good when upstream connections are faster.
