Mouse driver

I suspect the install process didn't put the correct mouse driver in place.  
Synaptics' driver doesn't work very well.  I am continually having to hit the 
pd several times for the click to 'take'.  I also don't find the xorgconfig 
or whatever is being used.  Only the config file seems to be on board and I 
don't care to edit it directly though I suppose I could get my backup out of 
Gentoo and put that one in its place, I suppose.

Suggestions...?  Thanks.
