I am aware I don't know the first thing about (k)ubuntu when I read posts like
yours. What I meant to say was: ubuntu has an apt-get that behaves like
debian's, but of course so does fink in macosx. Never mind, but thanks for
the extensive explanations.
The basis then for choosing (k)ubuntu over debian was , for me, what you
mentioned (easy install) and more: debian's stable branches are arcaic and
not useful in a production environment, unless such production has to do with
web servers.
