You may already have it. It's been a while since I installed Kubuntu on
anything, and my memory could be faulty, but I seem to recall dhcp being a
setup option. Also, at the time I did install Kubuntu (Hoary), it was on a
machine that was on a static IP network accessing the internet through
another PC acting as a router/gateway. That other machine (and the wireless
router that has replaced it for that function) use(d) dhcp only on the WAN
(Internet) side with static addressing on the LAN/WLAN (local) side.
There should be a number of dhcp clients to choose from; when I first got
ADSL, I was using Mandrake and used dhcpcd because it was on the the
installation CDs. It turned out to be a very easy setup, once one of the
ISP's support techs told me they didn't use PPPoE for their ADSL servers (I
was lucky enough to run into one that knew there were other things beside
Windows and Macs).
You've inspired me to download Breezy and give it a go on my test/backup
machine - during which I can check my memory on the availability of a dhcp
client.....
