Good news then, but I can't make a dist-upgrade to a beta: I use my kubuntu
computer as a production station. I expect dapper to be ready for april?
On the meanwhile, will killing ivman and removing it from
the /usr/bin/startkde solve the issue completely, meaning, when not inserting
but mounting a CD won't kded try to mess around?
I've sent an email to ubuntu-devel on battery savings issues regarding
updatedb, and also about the airport.
And while at it: the kwifimanager is a joke. It doesn't do what it claims.
I've been told that one can succesfully connect wireless by manually
configuring some file in the /etc. Is there any known and reliable
documentation on such a file?

Who or what is this entity, 'backports'?
apt-cache tells me that current gwenview version is 1.2. Can't it be installed
in KDE 3.4?
Have you tried KDE 3.5? Is it stable and reliable as 3.4 is? Is there any
package for powerpc (apparently not in the kubuntu site yet) ?

kaffe and gcj are miles away from 1.4.2 and 1.5.0, I'm afraid. Most of my java
development is GUI-related, and it just doesn't hold in kaffe or gcj.

What do you mean by flight CD, a live CD ? I can test a live CD for dapper, no
problem, but as I said I can't install it: I need to trust my machine
completely.
Thanks for your suggestions Jonathan.
