boot problem

hello,
i download and try to install kubuntu 5.10 and looks fine
but when rebooting it gets to "Starting hotplug subsystem       ok" and stop
i tried already some boot options (acpi=off) but didn't work
some ideas or better some help??
This is using a laptop.........
