Poor Verdana Font Quality

Hi

I have installed the MS Verdana font on my Kubuntu setup. I usually
turn AA off cause my eyes are a little bit (1.5 ;-) weak and I can
read texts better when AA is off. I turn AA of even in Windows.

But Verdana is rendered very poorly on small sizes. I have uploaded a

Could someone please have a look at the shot and let me know if the
low quality is reproducible on his/her machine or how can I fix it?
Please have a look at the first three lines, and the W and N
characters.
