[dapper] can't access usb scanner as normal user???

 YES! If I'm using a sudo enabled account, and remember to type "sudo
kooka" instead of just "kooka", I can scan any time I want...
But I want family members I wouldn't give sudo to, to be able
to use the scanner... sigh!

Good thought! I'd forgotten there was such a group. But yes the user
account I've been failing to access the scanner with is listed in both
the scanner and saned groups.

Errr at least according to /etc/group. I can't seam to get the gui
module called "Users & Groups" to load... I detest using gui tools for
system admin, I'd use either useradd or adduser to add a new user and
would most likely use "sudo adduser USER GROUP" to add a user to a
group. And since I've never tried to use the gui method on kubuntu, I
don't know how long selecting the user section of the system settings in
the gui would have resulted in this error message:

The module Users & Groups could not be loaded.

The diagnostics is:

Possible reasons:

	*An error occurred during your last KDE upgrade leaving an orphaned control module
	*You have old third party modules lying around.

Check these points carefully and try to remove the module mentioned in the error message. If this fails, consider contacting your distributor or packager.

I haven't the slightest idea what kind of module it's talking about or
where to look for it. Nor what it's actual filename would be. Nor how to
remove it if I did find it... unless "rm FILENAME" is a safe way to do
it???????

But since the only way I ever upgraded kde on kubuntu was via 
"apt-get upgrade" and/or "apt-get dist-upgrade" I'm thinking this is the
right list to contact [my] "distributor or packager"...

But I can't see why a ["kde"?] module should prevent the shell command
"scanimage -L" from accessing the scanner...
