I do not suggest Automatix - this program screwed up my Ubuntu system 
totally (I tried it on 5.10 and 6.06), that I needed to reinstall it. 
There are some items twice or similar programs for same purpose or same 
program and different versions (old and new ones). In other words - 
Automatix is messed up and there is hard to understand, what is right 
choices.

Instead Automatix I suggest EasyUbuntu:

Easyubuntu works all the time and does not change any system 
configuration. It has clear design and easy to decide and choose 
choices. I suggest to download *.tar.gz version and run it using python, 
which is included by default in Ubuntu. I suggest to open terminal at 
first and then run this python script from there. Reason - this script 
needs some interactive answers and if you run this script without 
command prompt, you won't see those questions and cannot answer.

In short, type at the command line:

wget http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/files/easyubuntu-3.023.tar.gz
tar -zxf easyubuntu-3.023.tar.gz
cd easyubuntu
sudo python easyubuntu.in

In the future version might be higher - so watch Easyubuntu's webpage 
(http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/) to get the latest version.
