If you use Koffice 1.6.1, threr is very good ODF support. I use OOo at work
and home for basic word processing and some spreadsheet work. All my text
docs open and are properly formatted when opened in Kword, and my small
number of spreadsheets open and work the same in Kspread. One of my sheets
has some conditional formatting that even works the same between the 2
applications. MS Office conversions are sometimes iffy in OOo, and I have yet
to open any complex MS Office docs in Koffice.
OOo may be more "professional' but Koffice is still very nice. My wife
prefers it over OOo (and MS office) because it has a simpler cleaner
interface. try both and pick what you like :)
