I'm going to skip the whole "why you shouldn't log in as root" part, as
I assume you know all about that, and just tell you how to do it.

You need to edit /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc and change
AllowRootLogin=false
to
AllowRootLogin=true
It'll be around line #256
