Problem starting kde

Sounds like something is crashing when KDE starts up. You should be able to kill the window off by pressing ctl-alt-esc, then click your mouse on the window. It will turn the pointer into a skull&crossbones to warn you.

Now the big deal is to figure out what is the problem. I am guessing that it is KDE's ARTS volume control, and it is set to auto start. Try unchecking it in Control Panel/Sound. You may see if it is auto loading in ~/.kde/auto-start/

My names and directory locations are not quite right as it is a boring day at work, and I am typing this from in front of WinXP.
