Q: easy su

have you tried using KDE's Root Console? I do, and using vim, it works perfectly. I am completely with you and the sudo nonsense, and KDE's Root Console satisfies me. Just right click on the panel, choose add Applet, and find the one related to the console selector. Don't pick the single console window version, you want the one with several versions, one of which is the root window.
