Configuring an Epson Printer

I have an Epson C80 which I know works fine with Cups, but I am having a fit 
getting it to run stably with any Debian based distro.

My first problem with both the KDE and the Ubuntu printer interfaces is I have 
no printers to choose from. The field is blank. I assume I am missing a 
package, but what one?

Secondly, does any one have an Epson C80 or similar they have running 
successfully?
