Reasons ro choose Kubuntu over Knoppix?

Thanks. This would be a return to Linux, since I used Mandrake from
7-9.2. I'm now running an Athlon64, and wondering whether that means I
have to install the 64-bit Kubuntu. This blurb from the d/l page seems
to suggest that to me:

64-bit PC (AMD64) install/live DVD
    For computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g.,
Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon). It is not necessary for all (even most)
processors made by AMD -- only their 64 bit chips.
