Floppy Drive Problems!

When I try to access a floppy disk, it takes a long, long time to access 
the disk. On Windows, it doesn't take that long.
This is my first time accessing the floppy drive in Kubuntu.

My floppy drive is an external USB device.

Any help or reply is apprecitated.
