Hmmnn now that figures. It's simple, logical, and I feel stupid for not
trying that before starting this thread... At the moment I'm using my
Dapper installation where /etc/init.d/ntpdate doesn't exist. So I just
mounted my Breezy partition then did:

cd /theUnSpeakable/hda4/etc/init.d
su -c "mv ./etc/init.d/ntpdate /theUnSpeakable/hda4/quarantinedir"

(yes I have an actual root account which is why I refer to my first
kubuntu partition as "theUnSpeakable")

When next I select theUnSpeakable from my grub menu I'll take note if
this works without complications and follow up with the results.

In the mean time though, I'm curious why theUnSpeakable had an
/etc/init.d/ntpdate and my Dapper (theWanderLust) installation
doesn't???

Especially since my Dapper was made by using "apt-get dist-upgrade" on a
clone of my Breezy partition that was created via {tar -cpzf / tar -xpzf}
with the "--numeric-owner" option (using my mandrake 9.1 installation)

Actually though, since I do habitually try to watch the boot time message
text scroll by, and I only recently noticed the

* Synchronizing clock to ntp.ubuntulinux.org

line before, I suspect the real question might be, "what would have
automatically installed the /etc/init.d/ntpdate script to the breezy
installation recently?" ???
