??  It's been a long time since I dealt with this, but surely you _want_ the
hash there?  The problem is when you _do_ use noauth.

I can't believe this is still an issue.  It was just about the #1 FAQ on the
Corel Linux groups almost 10 years ago.  The workarounds are many, but iirc
it all comes down to needing auth/noauth for _incoming_ ppp sessions. 
Generally speaking few here are going to be doing that...
