ifrename replacement

I have a file in /etc that seems to do the same job as ifrename:

root at benissa:/etc# cat iftab
# This file assigns persistent names to network interfaces.
# See iftab(5) for syntax.
eth0 mac 00:11:09:97:8D:67 arp 1
