adept does't recognize root password

Hello,

I am new to Kubuntu.  I downloaded the latest (6.06 LTS Beta) release and I am now running it.

One thing I noticed is that the graphical version of apt-get doesn't work.  It asks for root password, which is fine.  Then it complains that it is not the right password, or it says "conversation with su failed" from some other admin windows.  However, from a shell window, I can "su - root" with the same password and use apt-get to install packages just fine.

Anyone know how I can get adept to recognize the root password?
