I missed a few responses in this thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating
something someone has already said.
Before you go reformatting your iPod's filesystem, have you made sure that
you have the proper IO slave installed to connect to an iPod?
ipodslave
is the IO slave you need; you can install it through Adept (I'm not sure
what repository it's in, but it's one of the standard ones; you may have
to enable universe or multiverse). I don't know what else you would need;
I use a Creative Zen Nomad, and I can connect to it just fine using the
kzenexplorer software and other tools without having to reformat my MP3
player or anything.
Good luck!
