Richard,
	Try this. Open the mixer from the system tray audio slider. Go to the output 
tab and turn on the different output channels (toggle button turns on, slider 
raises volume). You might find your system audio is controlled by one of 
these other channels.

	I found  that the channel "PCM" controls my sound output. The "master" 
channel doesn't do anything for me either. This one's a bug.
