In KDE there is Klipper - Clipboard tool. It has many advantages, but among 
other, it allows to sync selection and clipboard. Then you _can_ highlight 
selection and still paste it by Ctl-V, etc. in any combination :-)  Besides, 
Klipper holds (in file) as many entries as you want, shows not only text but 
also copied images etc.etc. 

"Two clipboard" situation is _very_ annoying for any newcomer and inevitably 
the conclusion usually is "Clipboard in Linux is not working or buggy". Such 
things should be explained somehow better.
