I use DSl with is a ppp connection also. The config for this is in:
/etc/ppp/

Which programm did you use to configure this connestion?
(For pppoe=DSL it is pppoeconf)

In my case i have set "persist" in /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider.

man pppd:
<-------------------------------------------------
persist
Do not exit after a connection is terminated; instead try to reopen
the connection. The maxfail option still has an effect on persistent
connections.
- ------------------------------------------------->

If you use dial out connection this might be in:
/etc/ppp/peers/provider.
