I just thought my explanation is a little misty.

1.
sudo pppoeconf   -> to update the config (/etc/ppp/ip-up.d/0clampmss)

2.
add or comment out:
mtu 1492	-> in /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider

3.
sudo poff
sudo pon

your connection should be better than.
