Safely Read/Write to NTFS

Hi,
I have installed Kubuntu on a third HD that I use in my system without 
connecting my Wnidows HD's so as not to mess with that config. I know 
that there is a way to mount an NTFS partition but I have heard that 
there are problems with writing to NTFS. Does anyone know of a SAFE way 
to write to NTFS from linux, obviously more specifically Kubuntu.
