Adventure #1 with a G4

I am installing Kubuntu 5.10 preview on the 2nd hard disk
of my 2003 Mirror Door G4 
(1 GB RAM, dual processor) - this disk is a slave of IDE1
(I have 4 hard disks in my G4).

I am trying Kubuntu first (rather than Ubuntu 5.10) because
of my rather negative experience 
with Kub 5.10 on my Mac-Mini.

I am looking for the following features:

i. a working sound system,

ii. a GUI that loads,

iii. no "jolly" purple screen

iv. NO ADVERSE EFFECTS UPON MY MAC OS 10.4.2 INSTALL ON THE
MASTER HARD DISK !!!

chose the 'Desktop' guided partition

chose the Linux-powerpc kernel

RESULTS:

On first reboot got the "Ubuntu Configuration" screen (as
opposed to the purple one
with the Mac-Mini).

YES: a full-blown Kubuntu 5.10 - super!

Grumble #1  Kynaptic won't accept either my user password
("z') or my root password ("y")

Grumble #2  Nor will any part of the system tools that
require admin access.

Tomorrow I shall try and build WINE.
