Kubuntu and Novell Netware environment

Hi!
I have played with the Breezy live CD at work. The whole network is
Windows centric with Novell additions. For example, we have a
Groupwise server, Novell Netware authentication. We do not have a DNS
server as such, but windows knows how to get the information it needs
to translate addresses. I wanted to install Kubuntu to use a number of
programs, but I would also like to cause the least possible disruption
to our IT staff. So here are the questions:
1.- How can one configure the network without having an explicit DNS server?
2.- The connection to our Groupwise server using Kontact's Groupwise
wizard doesn't seem to work properly. My server sits (according to the
windows client) on port 1667, and Kontact tries to connect using an
https://<>:1667/soap URL (when trying to update the calendar), but
Kontact sits idly waiting for a reply. The e-mail account doesn't even
show up any folder or anything.
3.- Is there an easy way to authenticate to the Novell Netware servers
from Kubuntu?

I am not familiar with Novell at all, so if you find that I'm missing
some information on that respect, please ask for it, and I'll try to
gather it.

Many thanks!
José
