Documents directory problem

I am running Hoary.  This problem occurred for a few weeks with Warty 
and then went away.

Whenever I try to access the Documents and Desktop directories either in 
Konqueror or in a file open/save dialog, it take close to 5 minutes to 
get a listing of these directories.  Other directories display OK.  Same 
problem with ~ $ ls Documents/ in a terminal (konsole).

Any ideas of the cause? solution?
