Breezy freezing

I've had some strange install issues too. It seems the default 
2.6.12-9-386 kernel that installs by default can't detect /dev/hda1 on 
my disc. Upgrading from a 5.04 install works just fine. Can you install 
5.04 as a server and then upgrade?
