Ye olde Hardware shoppee

Hi

I am yet another linux newbie/techno dummy using kubuntu...been
exploring three weeks and very happy. Most pleasing computer fun since
I had me old beos. I am thinking of upgrading my extremely cheap
computer based round a £35(UK money) mainboard to a reasonably good
modern self built home/internet system...AMD64, motherboard, memory,
graphics card and dvd player processor etc. I am not into gaming or
super art work. Is the anything/limits I should realise before I go
mad creating my evil computer.

Any good ideas might be fun ..thinking of a £300-400 (uk money again) budget.
