Konqueror doesn't work for webpages

Hey all, I'm having a bit of a difficulty and I'm hoping someone knows the
answer. When I start konqueror everything works as expected except for
webpages (i.e., http://... and https://...)

The following protocols seem to work fine:
ftp://
file://
smb://
trash://
remote://
applications://
help://
(that's all I've tested)

When I try to connect to a webpage, http://www.kubuntu.org, I get the
following:
--------
An error occurred while loading http://www.kubuntu.org/:

Count not connect to host http://www.kubuntu.org/.
--------

The title bar has: "Error while loading http://www.kubuntu.org/ - Konqueror"
The status bar has: "Page loaded."

The Help | About screen for Konqueror says: "Konqueror 3.4.3 (Using KDE
3.4.3)"
The command 'dpkg-query -l konqueror' reports: "ii konqueror 3.4.3-0ubuntu6..."

When I use the 'wget' command or when I use 'firefox' everything works as
expected. I have no proxy installed or setup.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Brad.
