Program install

Hi All,

Fist I guess I am a newbie with Linux but I have Kubuntu up and running
and so far added a few apps and am very impressed.

I would like to get an IDE running for pic microcontrollers.

http://pikdev.free.fr/ is the web address for the program.

I have downloaded the deb package of this and tried to use dpkg to 
install it
(dpkg--install / directory/program) to no avail.

Please, any pointers, help etc on doing this would be greatly appreciated,
