I've found media:/ support in kde to be unreliable at best. It even shows me 
one of my external drives mountable as sdb, sdb1... which isn't right because 
I shouldn't able to mount the whole drive sdb w/o a partition #.

Make sure you have the /media/[dirname] that it's trying to mount to also, as 
it doesn't seem to be too proficient at creating them itself.
