printing on kubuntu

originally my printing worked fine, but recently it stopped printing anything 
after the first sheet(ie. 10 sheets are printed. 10 sheets come out. only 
sheet 1 has anything on it).

I tried a different printer (both laserjet 1010, and PSC 1315) both acted 
alike when printing. also pdf documents printed from kpdf are not aligned to 
the sheet in single sheet or multisheet per page output on either printer for 
any sheet. the margins overlap the edge of the paper.
