Easier multi-media sound

Might seem a dumb question but does the cd player (Kscd?) actually access
your cdrom? I ask because on my installation /dev/cdrom & cdrw both point
to my cdrw, but cdrom1 points to the cd player and I had to set all
software accordingly.
