Not explicitly, though Xorg.0.log shows:
(--) I810(0): Virtual size is 1280x800 (pitch 2048)

The key is "taking the first one"...  I thought kde was supposed to save its
resolution.  Changing the modes to: "1280x800" "1024x768", makes it come up
correctly!  Thanks.

No combination of Alt, Ctrl, Shift, + and - gives me the ability to change
modes, even though the kcontrol settings let me switch at will.
