Yes, I also had problems with amaroK, it would freeze if I'd try to play a 
stream. But there is a solution, I found this in bugzilla:

https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8703

In short, uninstall the package amarok-arts and install amarok-xine. That 
should make amaroK work.
