Personally, I haven't seen the problem you mention, and I've installed
my fair share of Kubuntus lately.

It sure sounds a bit odd. Especially since you mention it is a fresh
install in which I suspect you haven't been mocking around a whole lot.
Anyhow, is see Jonathan Riddell announced the final release of Kubuntu
just a few hours ago - any chance you could try that ISO (maybe with
QEMU if you don't want to reinstall).

Maybe, but if you can reproduce your problem with the final rel. better
submit a seperate report about it.
