I had the same problem (kubuntu 9.10 : kernel 2.6.31-16) ...<br>

after editing one line (in my case it was the last line) in<br>
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf<br>
from<br>
options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N<br>
to<br>
options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=Y<br>
the problem seems to be gone.<br>
