problems with kubuntu 23.10 beta

I've got a lenovo laptop that I've been testing the pre-release of 23.10 on and 
having significant problems. This is nvidia video, currently using the 535 
driver

If I login with plasma on wayland, the kwin_wayland process goes to 1200% cpu

If I login with plasma on X, various things (like starting Oraslicer as of 
yesterday) crash the session and take me back to a login

I also am having problems with unbuntu on both X and wayland crashing (with the 
crashes, what triggers it has varied over the last few weeks)

this is a test laptop, so I can try whatever you want with it.
