I just realized what you called the "KDE indicator" is the (i) icon, not
the Indicator Display plasmoid. Sorry about that.

The (i) is part of the systray code. Adding another item in means either
patching the systray, or running an external program which creates a
systray icon (like Kopete of KMix do). I don't think we want to go this way.
I would to remind everyone that at UDS my initial proposal was to create
a KDE version of notify-osd. This is the code I demonstrated.
It did not depend on glib and kdelibs and would have been packaged
separately so that no Plasma patching was necessary. This proposal was
rejected and it was suggested to implement notifications in Plasma itself.
