As long as it's opt-in, it should not be a problem.

I intend to maintain it as part of my work at Canonical. The patch
itself is not too invasive: it introduce two new classes, but the
modification to the existing files are very small.

I hope Plasma developers will like this and would be willing to
integrate this change upstream, but of course there is no way to know
how it will be received.
