Help needed with Karmic laptop lid troubleshooting

I have two laptops that have the same symptoms:

A Dell Insperon 1525, upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 today.

Toshiba Satellite A135, upgraded in September. It has not worked in 9.10 to
date.
