I installed KDE 3.5 beta1 through Konstruct on my Kubuntu mashine. The
compiliation and installation succeded, so I should now have two paralel
KDE's (default is 3.4.2), since I installed KDE 3.5 in ~/kde35beta1/
directory.
However, I cannot lounch it. I exit X and then follow the startup
instructions from
http://developer.kde.org/build/konstruct/unstable/README
and execute a bash script (either with sudo, or without):
#!/bin/sh
export QTDIR=~/kde3.5-beta1
export KDEDIR=~/kde3.5-beta1
export KDEDIRS=~/kde3.5-beta1
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/kde3.5-beta1/lib
export PATH=~/kde3.5-beta1/bin:$PATH
export KDEHOME=~/.kdetest
and then try to run
$ startx
but it starts my gnome desktop...
Then I try to run
$ startkde
and it starts nothing... I have a bunch of messages running through the
console window... (I know I should report those here, and I will do that
once I am back to my linux desktop soon)
$ sudo kdm
also starts the default KDM, which helps me lounch either the old kde,
or gnome...
But, maybe there are some pecularities on starting KDE thus compiled
that I should know off?
